Letter from John Wiley Edmands to William Kellogg, U.S. Representative from Illinois, expressing the Republican Party's position on slavery just after Lincoln's election as President. Edmands compares Mary Howard Schoolcraft's book on slavery with the much quoted Hinton Helper's "The Impending Crisis of the South" and refers to the need for writers to stress the effect of slavery upon white people of the South and not the condition of the slaves.
